Perhaps you have a stack of stories you’ve written down but never shared. Perhaps the tales are swirling around in your head, desperate to be written down. Well now is the time! There’s no point keeping them to yourself. Why not write them down and enter a new travel writing competition launched by Travelex alongside Penguin Books. The winner will not only win £1,500 in cash they will also get a one-hour, money-can’t-buy session with a Penguin editor for feedback and advice on how to get it published. What an amazing prize! Hurry though, the competition ends at 11.59pm on Sunday 5th February.

Travel writing competition

All the details on how to enter the travel writing competition are here. It is open to all new writers over the age of 18, young or old, as long as you haven’t already had work published. The judges are looking for short stories up to 1,000 words on a travel experience like no other. There’s an extra £500 prize for students as well (although they can also win the main prize too).

For me, writing has always been something I have loved doing from tapping away on my typewriter writing stories as a child and putting pen to paper in a journal to writing news stories as a journalist and now focusing on travel as part of my blog. Setting up Wander Mum and putting my words out there was a bit scary but I am SO glad I did it. Usually the things in life which scare us the most turn out to be the best thing we have ever done. Travelling the world on my own when I was 21 and sky diving from 12,000 feet both spring to mind! Travel opens up so many different experiences. I adore reading other people’s travel stories: the good the bad, the funny. Go get creative and tell YOUR story. If you are reading this and know someone who should enter, please share it!

Wander Mum

I've always loved to travel so when my two daughters came along, I didn't stop. Travelling as a family can have its ups and downs but I love showing my children the world and helping others navigate travelling with children in tow.
